About the School

  • No. JHCS is a tuition-free public charter school that operates independently but is accountable to the Utah State Board of Education.

  • We currently serve grades K8 across two campuses, one in Pleasant Grove and one in Eagle Mountain.

  • Our classes typically have 2527 students, providing a learning environment for more individualized instruction.

  • JHCS uses the Core Knowledge Sequence, CKLA Core Knowledge Language Arts) EnVision Math, and Quantum Learning's 8 Keys of Excellence. This ensures a rigorous, content-rich, and character-based education. 

  • No. JHCS is its own district and reports directly to the Utah State Board of Education.

Admissions

  • To begin the process, fill out an Intent to Enroll form on our website: A : www.johnhancockcs.org. Enrollment is based on available openings and conducted via lottery if necessary.

  • Yes, we often have a waiting list for most grade levels due to high demand. However, we encourage parents to fill out the Intent to Enroll form because it is a lottery. 

Parent Involvement

  • No. Parents are asked to perform 40 hours of volunteer service per year per family. Many parents exceed this, reflecting our strong school-community partnership. This is not a requirement, but highly encouraged. 

  • Volunteering may include classroom help, event coordination, field trips, PTO involvement, and more.

Program Highlights

    • Every student learns a string instrument beginning in third grade.
    • Every student participates in music education.
    • 1:1 technology with digital learning integration in grades 2-8th.
    • Emphasis on Core Knowledge, character education, and patriotism
    • Hands-on Makerspace/STEM experiences for K-8
    • Nationally recognized as a Core Knowledge Visitation Site and a Krystal Key Award school by the Quantum.
  • We offer Science Fair, Spelling Bee, various cultural celebrations, and yearbook programs. 

Academis & Assessment

  • We use standards-based grading, Mastery Connect, state assessments RISE, Acadience, NWEA, and individualized student learning plans to monitor growth.

  • Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic interventions, progress monitoring, and a full-time school counselor are in place to support student success. 

Campus Life

  • Yes. Uniforms help promote a focused academic environment. We also offer a uniform exchange for parents. 

  • Yes. Details about lunch menus and payment options are provided at enrollment.

  • Absolutely. Every student participates in visual arts, Core Knowledge Music, and string instruction 3rd through 6th grade. 

    • Students are known and valued as individuals.
